Know what you have
Ask your supplier for the stone’s identity and written care guidance. A commercial colour name alone does not tell you which cleaners are appropriate.
Keep it gentle
Use a cleaner suitable for your stone, rinse and dry as directed. Avoid acidic cleaners, including vinegar, on acid-sensitive materials such as marble. Blot spills promptly instead of spreading them.
Protect the surface
Use coasters, trivets and cutting boards. Sealers may help repel stains, but do not make stone stain-proof or prevent acid etching. Ask your fabricator whether your particular surface needs sealing.
Build care into the design
Give the cutting board, trivets and approved cleaner a convenient home. Habits are easier when the things you need are close at hand. Discuss expectations before choosing: do you enjoy a surface that records daily life, or expect a more uniform appearance?
When something changes
A dull mark and a dark stain may need different treatment. Take a photograph and consult the supplier or a stone-care professional before trying an improvised remedy. Keep the material identification, finish and care instructions together so that the advice starts with the right surface.
